This even has great application to Israel today, Deuteronomy 30:3-5.

3That then Yehovah thy God will turn thy captivity, and have compassion upon thee, and will return and gather thee from all the nations, whither Yehovah thy God hath scattered thee. 4If any of thine be driven out unto the outmost parts of heaven, from thence will Yehovah thy God gather thee, and from thence will he fetch thee: 5And Yehovah thy God will bring thee into the land which thy fathers possessed, and thou shalt possess it; and he will do thee good, and multiply thee above thy fathers.

God was going to bring Israel back into the land after the second exile.  This was after Israel was scattered into all nations.  This time God did not expect them to destroy all the people.   However, God did expect them to do something else.

Today, there are less religious Jews than prior to World War II.  Which means that their lives are more secular and less sanctified.  Israel as a people had a covenant with God, Deuteronomy 4:40.

40Thou shalt keep therefore his statutes, and his commandments, which I command thee this day, that it may go well with thee, and with thy children after thee, and that thou mayest prolong thy days upon the earth, which Yehovah thy God giveth thee, for ever.

If one hearkens unto the commandments, things would go well for them.  Do you ever wonder why the Palestinians have been a continuing threat to Israel?  Israel is not doing what they should do.  Most Jews today are as secular as the world.

Even Christians are told not to be that way.  Christians are to follow God.  Today, it is difficult to distinguish between a Christian and a nonbeliever.   It seems that the only real difference is a Christian goes to church on a Sunday.  Oddly enough, that is what heathens did 2000 years ago.  Is it any wonder that Christians have problems today?

Today, Christians should pray for the peace of Jerusalem.  Yet it saddens me to think that peace will probably not come until Yeshua returns.  Peace is always conditional.  Today, where Edom used to reside is where Palestinians have resided for many years.  The Palestinians are the Spiritual Edomites of today.
