21 And the twelve gates were twelve pearls; every several gate was of one pearl: and the street of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass.
The gates are made of pearl, because they are the entry way into the kingdom. As in the Pearl of Great Price.
The streets of the city were pure gold, these are the way we should walk. If we do, we produce works that are wrought in God’s perfection. One is to walk in the works of God. They are what allows us to move about in the kingdom of God. It was transparent, because we are to be transparent people. There should be no hidden agenda. Our yea should be yea and our nay nay, James 5:12.
12 But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation.
Why are the gates made of pearl. It is because a pearl is made of a piece of dirt that gets extremely hardened. It forms inside an oyster, an unclean animal. Similarly we were once unclean. We too must be worked and harden into something of value through our works. This is how we are to enter into the Kingdom of God. God makes something beautiful out of former nonbelievers.
