Devarim 32 (Deuteronomy 32)
Devarim 32 is the Song Yehovah had Moshe teach the Children of Yisrael. Moshe was to put it in their mouths. This means they were to speak the words of the Song. This Song was to be a witness for Yehovah against the Children of Yisrael. It was something we were to learn from and teach each succeeding generation. If we would learn the lessons of the Song, we would not fall victim to faithlessness and rebellion. This song teaches us to avoid the wayward path and there are consequences in life. Most of all, even in the most desperate of times there is still hope. At the end of Devarim 32, Yehovah describes Moshe’s last days.
Yehovah is used 9 times in Devarim 32 in 52 verses.

Song of Moshe
Song of Moshe
Devarim 32:1
1 Give ear, you heavens, and I will speak; and hear, land, the words of My mouth.
This begins the song Moshe was to teach to the Children of Yisrael. Yehovah told Moshe to put it in their mouths. The Children of Yisrael were to repeat this song, Devarim 31:19.
19 Now therefore write you this song for you, and teach it the Children of Yisrael. Put it in their mouths, that this song may be a witness for Me against the Children of Yisrael.
Devarim 32 are Yehovah’s words we are to learn. We need to treat these as if Yehovah was speaking directly to us today. This song was to be a witness against the Children of Yisrael in every generation.
Although it is stated that it is a witness against us, it could have easily been a witness for the Children of Yisrael. Just because it was stated that they would be wayward children, they could have chosen to stand with Yehovah. They could have chosen to be obedient rather than rebellious. We can always choose the path less traveled, Matityahu 7:13-14.
13 Enter in at the narrow (stenos) gate. For wide the gate, and broad the way, that leads to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat. 14 Because narrow (stenos) the gate, and afflicted (thlibo) the way, which leads to life, and few there be that find it.
To choose the path less traveled, we must choose the way of the cross. We must take up our cross and follow Him. We must leave the world behind and look towards the Son.
The Song that Moshe taught the Children of Yisrael is referred to in Revelation 15:3-4.
3 And they sing the Song of Moshe the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, Great and marvelous Your works, Lord God Almighty; just and true Your ways, You King of saints. 4 Who shall not fear You, Lord, and glorify Your name? For only holy. For all nations shall come and worship before You; for Your judgments are made manifest.
We are not only to sing this song, we are to live it in victory. We should learn to be like those in Tehilla 107:42-43.
42 The righteous shall see and rejoice. And all iniquity shall stop her mouth. 43 Whoso wise, and will observe these, even they shall understand the mercy (chesed) of Yehovah.
We are to learn from these various songs and teachings.
There are two ways to learn. We can learn by experiencing it ourselves or we can learn by trusting in the one who is teaching. Too often, we like to learn from our own experiences. Often that results in a lot of trial and error. Mostly error that results in a lot of unnecessary pain.
As for Scriptures, God is trying to guide us in the right path. If we truly trust in Him, we should follow His ways from the beginning. We should learn the Song ahead of time, so we can avoid the pitfalls of life. It is never too late to start walking in His ways.
His Doctrine
His Doctrine
Devarim 32:2
2 My doctrine shall drop as the rain, My speech shall distil as the dew, as the small rain upon the tender herb, and as the showers upon the grass.
Doctrine is the Hebrew word לֶקַח leqach (H3948). It is in the Bible 9 times. לֶקַח leqach (H3948) is translated doctrine 4 times, learning 4 times and fair speech 1 time. לֶקַח leqach (H3948) comes from the Hebrew word לָקַח laqach (H3947).
לֶקַח leqach (H3948) is used in the sense of something taken in. When one is teaching they are attempting to bring forth a set of principles or belief system rather than just basic learning. They are effectively teaching doctrine in a persuasive manner that is taken in by an individual. This should result in the doctrine being taught becoming a part of the individual’s personal doctrine. As such, לֶקַח leqach (H3948) should be rendered persuasive doctrine.
Dew comes from the Hebrew word טַל tal (H2919). It is in the Bible 31 times and is always translated dew. It has been assumed to be dew as covering vegetation. However, the majority of its uses are figurative. When dew is present a supernatural move of Yehovah will result.
Yehovah is telling us that we will learn doctrine as the rain comes on the lands. It will not be something we can decide for ourselves, it comes supernaturally from God like the rain. Just as rain causes the plant to grow, His persuasive doctrine would cause us to mature. If we choose to walk in His doctrine, the rain will continue. We are to combine His rain with His voice that comes supernaturally like the dew. As we continue, the rain will continue to fall and we will grow in Him.
Devarim 32:3
3 Because I will publish the name of Yehovah. Ascribe greatness to our Redeemer.
We are to proclaim greatness to Him. We are to tell all that we can of His greatness.
Yehovah Knows Best
Yehovah Knows Best
Devarim 32:4
4 The Rock (tzur), His work without blemish (tamiym). For all His ways judgment. A God (el) of truth and without iniquity, righteous (tsaddiyq) and upright (yashar) He.
Yehovah tells us that all His works are without blemish. It has been this way from the beginning, Bereishis 1:31.
31 And Redeemer saw every thing that He had made, and, behold, very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.
God had made every thing in the proper order. It could not be improved on. He had done what was necessary to achieve the intended results.
Yehovah carefully considers every thing He creates and does. There are no mistakes in what He does. He is truth and there is no sin in Him. His judgments are well thought out. He walks in uprightness without partiality. We are fortunate to have such a God create us.
With all this, why did His creation fail?
First of all, they did not fail nor did Yehovah. There is more to this than meets the physical eye.
Devarim 32:5
5 They have corrupted themselves, their spot not of His children. A perverse and crooked generation.
God did not corrupt the people. God allowed the people to choose for themselves. As usual, we have a tendency to choose what we see and desire. Too often this is evil that leads to calamity. Eventually if chosen too often, we will corrupt ourselves.
One might wonder why a God so great, would allow His creation to corrupt themselves. Because for the most part, we choose the lesser path in life.
This is when we have to understand that God had a choice. From the beginning, Yehovah could have designed us so that we would never sin. He could have created us to follow Torah perfectly. He could have ensured that we always do the right thing never deviating from what was set forth.
However, He chose not to do that. As such, if it were possible, then there must have been a reason why. God chose to go a different route and created a fallible being. Possibly what we did from the beginning was not as important as what we learned to do in the end.
Out of all the people that have lived, there has been a small remnant that did not completely corrupt themselves. There is a group that desires to follow after Yehovah. This group chose the path of continuous repentance.
This is when we have to trust in Yehovah’s judgments. We may not understand all that is happening, but we should trust in what He told Moshe in Shemos 34:5-7.
5 And Yehovah descended in the cloud (anan), and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of Yehovah. 6 And Yehovah passed by before him, and proclaimed, Yehovah, Yehovah God (el), compassionate (rachum) and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in mercy (chesed) and truth, 7 keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children’s children, to the third and to the fourth.
We must acknowledge that He actually knows best. So many have made disparaging comments about His character. This includes non-believers and believers alike. Yet, He has endured these and has not gone back on His word. He made a promise from the beginning to rectify all the injustices that have occurred. We must understand that His judgments are far more encompassing than the concerns we have in our short lifetime.
There is a parable we should consider. Even Yehovah followed this prior to creating mankind, Luke 14:28-30.
28 For which of you, intending to build a tower, sits not down first, and counts the cost, whether he have to finish? 29 Lest haply, after he has laid the foundation, and is not able to finish, all that behold begin to mock him, 30 saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish.
Most of us are familiar with this parable. Many of us know this parable by the phrase, we should count the cost before we embark on an endeavor. It would be foolish to do anything and not have the resources or ability to complete a task properly. Why would we ever think God is not the same.
God considered all the possible combinations and potential outcomes. He chose the one that would accomplish what He had in mind. It is about time we start to trust in His judgment and get in alignment with His purposes and plans.
For those of us who think we can do better, take time to read His word before you criticize. God has a plan that is fair for all of us. We need His rainfall and dew so we can learn that plan and be in lockstep with Him.
Foolishness of Mankind
Foolishness of Mankind
Devarim 32:6
6 Do you thus repay (gamal) Yehovah, foolish people and unwise? Not He your father has bought you? Has He not made you, and established you?
Many of us seem to forget who we are. God who does so much for us, we seem to disregard this. At times, we have come up with all sorts of reasons why God does not exist or is not concerned with what we do. Even those who believe in Him are somewhat foolish in their appraisal of Him. We need to appreciate Yeshayahu 64:8.
8 But now, Yehovah, You our Father; we the clay, and You our potter; and we all the work of Your hand.
He made us very good, but we corrupted ourselves. Further we continue to do this of our own choosing. Many of us resemble the individual of Yeshayahu 45:9-10, believer and non-believe alike.
9 Woe to him that strives with his Maker. The potsherd with the potsherds of the earth (adamah). Shall the clay say to him that fashions it, What make you? Or your work, He has no hands? 10 Woe to him that says to father, What begets you? Or to the woman, What have you brought forth?
We foolishly question those who have brought us forth. We at a very early age start to rebel and question those who have given us life. Many times we do this with little if any knowledge of how we were created. Yehovah tells us in Yeshayahu 45:11.
11 Thus says Yehovah, the Holy One of Yisrael, and his Maker, Ask Me of things to come concerning My sons, and concerning the work of My hands command you Me.
This is God’s reply to the people. They foolishly told God who He is and how He should be worshiped. They should not have done this. He will return and straighten this out, Yeshayahu 45:22-25.
22 Look to Me, and be you saved, all the ends of the land. For I God (el), and none else. 23 I have sworn by Myself, the word is gone out of My mouth righteousness, and shall not return, that to Me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear. 24 Surely, shall say, in Yehovah have I righteousness and strength. To Him shall come; and all that are incensed against Him shall be ashamed. 25 In Yehovah shall all the seed of Yisrael be justified, and shall glory.
Although He is coming back to straighten out the mess we have created, He is not coming back for just the Church as so many fantasize. He is coming back to restitute His creation. To teach us the lessons we would not learn the first time. By the end of the Millennial Reign, things will be different than many of us have imagined. Then we will all understand that He was perfect in His creation. We will see and understand the wisdom of His purposes and plans.
Look Back to the Fathers
Look Back to the Fathers
Devarim 32:7
7 Remember the days of old, consider the years of many generations. Ask your father, and he will show you; your elders, and they will tell you.
We need to look back to our fathers. Not the one who might have been there when we were born. We need to look back to the fathers that first inhabited the earth. We need to understand why things happened. We need to consider why He would do what he has done. We need to approach Yehovah with humility and allow His pure rain to come upon us. We need to hear His voice and be taught supernaturally.
We ought to consider Bereishis 2:16-17.
16 And Yehovah Redeemer commanded the man (adam), saying, Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat. 17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, you shall not eat of it. For in the day that you eat thereof you will be dead as you are dying.
Why would Yehovah keep us from this? When we did eat, He tells us in Bereishis 3:17.
17 And to Adam He said, Because you have hearkened to the voice of your wife, and have eaten of the tree, of which I commanded you, saying, You shall not eat of it. Cursed the ground for your sake; in sorrow shall you eat it all the days of your life;
We ought to consider, why would a loving God full of compassion do such things?
Possibly, there is still something to learn from the garden and throughout Scriptures. We need to look back and learn all He has for us, before we go to the world for answers.
One day soon, many will realize the foolish answers of mankind. They will realize they worshiped the wrong being.
Devarim 32:8
8 When the most High divided to the nations their inheritance, when He separated the sons of Adam, He set the bounds of the people according to the number of the Children of Yisrael.
We ought to consider the time when He divided the nations. Why would He confuse the nations? Was it because they built a tower? The tower was never going to reach the heavens, He knew that. But did we?
Bereishis 11:6-9.
6 And Yehovah said, Behold, the people one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do. 7 Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech. 8 So Yehovah scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the land and they left off to build the city. 9 Therefore is the name of it called Bavel; because Yehovah did there confound the language of all the land and from thence did Yehovah scatter them abroad upon the face of all the land.
If God was all powerful, we need to consider why He would scatter them. So often, we think that God is holding good from us, when actually He is protecting us from ourselves. The Bible is the warning label of life. Few of us have taken this serious. It is high time we consider the warning, before we take another step into the darkness.
Yaaqov, Our Portion
Yaaqov, Our Portion
Devarim 32:9
9 For Yehovah’s portion His people; Yaaqov the lot of His inheritance.
Portion is the Hebrew word חֶבֶל chevel (H2256). It is in the Bible 60 times. חֶבֶל chevel (H2256) refers to a rope that is twisted, figuratively a measuring line; by implication, a district or inheritance as measured. חֶבֶל chevel (H2256) is used in a variety of ways, many uses are figurative. Figuratively, it emphasizes being bound to someone or something. In Devarim 32:9, Yaaqov and Yisrael are bound to Yehovah. Yisrael is Yehovah’s inheritance. He purchased Yisrael from bondage Shemos 15:16.
16 Fear and dread shall fall upon them; by the greatness of Your arm they shall be still as a stone; until Your people pass over, Yehovah, until the people pass over, You have purchased.
This is what made Yisrael unique above all other nations. Yisrael is Yehovah’s inheritance. He chose Yisrael above all other nations, Devarim 7:7-8.
7 Yehovah did not set His love upon you, nor choose you, because you were more in number than any people; for you the fewest of all people. 8 But because Yehovah loved you, and because He would keep the oath which He had sworn to your fathers, has Yehovah brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the house of bondmen, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Mitzrayim.
This bond will never be severed. This is why Moshe told the people in Devarim 4:20.
20 But Yehovah has taken you, and brought you forth out of the iron furnace, out of Mitzrayim, to be to Him a people of inheritance, as this day.
From long ago, Yisrael became Yehovah’s inheritance. This created a bond that can never be broken. No amount of rhetoric will separate Yisrael from Yehovah. Along with that goes a responsibility as His people. We are to follow His commandments and His voice. It should be our joy and desire to obey Him in all ways. We are to return more to Him as He has given us. Although we can not repay Him, we should never take lightly the relationship as His children.
Devarim 32:10
10 He found him in a desert land, and in the waste howling wilderness; He led him about, He instructed him, He kept him as the black (iyshon) of His eye.
Black (formerly apple) is the Hebrew word אִישׁוֹן iyshon (H0380). It is in the Bible 5 times. אִישׁוֹן iyshon (H0380) is translated apple 3 times, obscure 1 times and black 1 time. When it states the black of the eye, it is referring to the pupil. It is used to refer to one’s focus. Yisrael is the focus of Yehovah.
Yehovah has watched over Yisrael from the infant stage to the very day we are living in. He led Yisrael about and raised them up. Although, it may seem that He has turned His back on us, it was always to be a temporary thing.
Devarim 32:11
11 As an eagle stirs up her nest, flutters over her young, spreads abroad her wings, takes them, bears them on her wings.
Yehovah has watched over Yisrael as an eagle will. Just as an eagle will spread her wings on her young to protect them, Shemos 19:4.
4 You have seen what I did to the Mitzrayim, and I bare you on eagles’ wings, and brought you to Myself.
It is even better when we walk in His ways, Tehilla 91:4.
4 He shall cover you with His feathers and under His wings shall you trust. His truth barb (tzinnah) and buckler.
He brought Yisrael to Mount Chorev to establish them as His people. This was a necessary step for His plan to redeem mankind. Yisrael was to be a nation of priests, Shemos 19:5-6.
5 Now therefore, if you will obey My voice indeed, and keep My covenant, then you shall be a peculiar treasure to Me above all people. For all the land Mine. 6 And you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests, and a holy nation. These the words which you shall speak to the Children of Yisrael.
Although Yisrael has yet to fulfill this calling, it will in the future Restitution of All Things. There will rise a generation that will fulfill the calling of Revelation 1:5-6.
5 And from Yeshua Messiah, the faithful witness, the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. To Him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in His own blood, 6 and has made us kings and priests to God and His Father; to Him glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
In the future, this calling will be realized. Yehovah has watched over us from the time in the desert that He found us to the time He brings us into His Kingdom into Eternity.
Devarim 32:12
12 Yehovah alone did lead him, and no foreign (nekar) god (el) with him.
This is one of the more important concepts of Scriptures, Yeshayahu 45:5-7.
5 I Yehovah, and none else, no Redeemer beside Me. I girded you, though you have not known Me. 6 That they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that none beside Me. I Yehovah, and none else. 7 I form the light, and create darkness. I make peace, and create evil. I Yehovah do all these.
I am not sure how Yehovah can be any clearer. The truth is, most of us are not listening. It is questionable if we have ears to hear. In the future, we will hear Yeshayahu 12:1-2.
1 And in that day you shall say, Yehovah, I will praise You. Though You were angry (anaf) with me, Your anger (af) is turned away, and You comfort me. 2 Behold, God (el) my Yeshua; I will trust, and not be afraid. For Yah Yehovah my strength and song; He also is become my Yeshua.
There is only one and there will never be another. It was Yehovah from the beginning. He alone delivered us from Mitzrayim. He brought us to Mount Chorev. He established the covenant. He is our Yeshua. He is on the throne and will always be the only one on the throne.
It does not matter if this concept is hard for some to understand. We cannot make Him into something we want. We can only pursue Him and know Him as He wants to be known.
Devarim 32:13
13 He made him ride on the high places of the land, that he might eat the increase of the fields; and he made him to suck honey out of the rock (sela), and oil out of the flinty (challamiysh) rock (tzur);
Yehovah brought us above all nations. We were given a land that flowed with produce and prospered.
Honey is equated with glory, Mishlei 25:27.
27 Not good to eat much honey. So to search their own glory, glory.
We are warned against creating our own glory. We are to get our glory from Messiah. Through Messiah we will be presentable to Yehovah. It is in our repentance and humility that we become acceptable.
Yehovah gives forth the Spirit so we can know Him and be like Him. We need to learn how to access the Spirit His way.
Devarim 32:14
14 Butter of kine, and milk of sheep, with fat of lambs, and rams of the breed of Bashan, and goats, with the fat of kidneys of wheat; and you did drink the pure blood of the grape.
We were given all the necessities of life. He gave us all we needed to mature into a nation of Priests and Kings. We were given the milk of the word from an early age. From this, we could mature into a nation whose compassion was to pursue repentance and walk in His glory. Our fathers went into the land fully equipped to endure all possible threats. All we need to do was continue in the inheritance of Spirit and Truth we were given. We were given beyond what was required. It was our decision whether to employ these gifts.
Yeshurun Waxed Fat
Yeshurun Waxed Fat
Devarim 32:15
15 But Yeshurun waxed fat, and kicked. You are waxen fat, you are grown thick, you are covered; then he forsook God (eloha) made him, and lightly esteemed the Rock (tzur) of his Yeshua.
Yeshurun is the Hebrew word יְשֻׁרוּן Yeshurun (H3484). It is in the Bible 4 times. יְשֻׁרוּן Yeshurun (H3484) is translated Jeshurun 3 times and Jesurun 1 time. It is translated Jesurun in Yeshayahu 44:2.
2 Thus says Yehovah that made you, and formed you from the womb, will help you; fear not, Yaaqov, My servant; and you, Jesurun (Yeshurun), whom I have chosen.
The Hebrew text is וִישֻׁרוּן. It should have be rendered Yeshurun.
יְשֻׁרוּן Yeshurun (H3484) means upright one. It refers to Yisrael in the perfect state. It is an upright, Torah observant people. A people that uphold justice and pursue after Yehovah in a perfect state. All uses of יְשֻׁרוּן Yeshurun (H3484) should be rendered Yeshurun.
When Yisrael entered the land, they started to reach for the perfect state, Yehoshua 24:24.
24 And the people said to Yehoshua, Yehovah our Redeemer our Redeemer will we serve, and His voice will we obey.
These people meant what they said. Not much is stated about these people; however, it is stated in Yehoshua 24:31.
31 And Yisrael served Yehovah all the days of Yehoshua, and all the days of the elders that overlived Yehoshua, and which had known all the works of Yehovah, that He had done for Yisrael.
These people lived a life that started to parallel Scriptures. They lived a life that served Yehovah and His voice. When we do this, things will go well for us and our children, Devarim 4:40.
40 You shall keep therefore His statutes, and His commandments, which I command you this day, that it may go well with you, and with your children after you, and that you may prolong days upon the earth (adamah), which Yehovah your Redeemer gives you, for ever.
This is something repeated time and again in Scriptures. This generation did what all that followed should have done. However, the subsequent generation did not pursue God as their fathers. They forsook God and it was stated in Shofetim 2:10-11.
10 And also all that generation were gathered to their fathers. And there arose another generation after them, which knew not Yehovah, nor yet the works which He had done for Yisrael. 11 And the Children of Yisrael did evil in the sight of Yehovah, and served Baalim.
Subsequent generations pursued other gods that were not Yehovah.
Devarim 32:16-17
16 They provoked Him to jealousy with strange, with abominations provoked they Him to anger. 17 They sacrificed to devils, not to God (eloah); to redeemers whom they knew not, to new came newly up, whom your fathers feared not.
Subsequent to the initial generation, the Children of Yisrael’s seemed to wander away from Yehovah. They became affected by what was around them. The more they looked, the more they indulged. One cannot have it both ways with Yehovah. We are not to comingle Him with others. It is either all Him or none. Once you are His, you are always His.
When we make a covenant with Yehovah, it is a binding covenant. We cannot break it and nor will He. We cannot freely walk away and say we no longer want to be His people. There are consequences we should all be aware of. Yisrael experienced these, Shofetim 2:14-15.
14 And the anger (af) of Yehovah was hot against Yisrael, and He delivered them into the hands of spoilers that spoiled them, and He sold them into the hands of their enemies round about, so that they could not any longer stand before their enemies. 15 Whithersoever they went out, the hand of Yehovah was against them for evil, as Yehovah had said, and as Yehovah had sworn to them and they were greatly distressed.
We of the covenant will experience these too if we continue to walk in our own ways.
Devarim 32:18
18 Of the Rock (tzur) begat you, you have forgotten (shayah), and have forgotten (shakach) God (el) that formed you.
They had forgotten who brought them into the land.
Today, it seems many of us do not know our Father. When we forget or do not know who freed us from bondage, we have a tendency to drift in a wayward direction. This never results in true blessings.
God Watches Over
God Watches Over
Devarim 32:19
19 And when Yehovah saw, He abhorred, because of the provoking of his sons, and of his daughters.
Because we are part of a covenant with God, He watches over us. This can be good and sometimes this can be bad. We should always keep this in mind.
He did not save us so we could pursue our worldly desire. He saved us so that some of us would be part of the kingdom of priests.
The provoking came from the nations. This will be recompensed in the days to come. The provoking resulted in God’s people being seduced by the Harlot, Mishlei 7:10-14.
10 And, behold, there met him a woman the attire of a harlot, and subtle of heart. 11 She loud and stubborn; her feet abide not in her house. 12 Now without, now in the streets, and lies in wait at every corner. 13 So she caught him, and kissed him with an impudent face said to him, 14 peace offerings with me; this day have I paid my vows.
The Harlot was able to draw away God’s people through the lust of the eyes. She was willing to fulfill their carnal desires quickly. In this case, quick pleasures almost always result in long-term pain.
We must remember this only happens when we leave the house, Mishlei 7:6-9.
6 For at the window of my house I looked through my casement, 7 and beheld among the simple ones, I discerned among the youths, a young man void of understanding, 8 passing through the street near her corner; and he went the way to her house, 9 In the twilight, in the evening, in the black and dark night.
It is the young and immature that leave the house. They think they know better, but they know nothing. These become the prey of the Harlot. They should of stayed in the home Yehovah provided.
Devarim 32:20
20 And He said, I will hide My face from them, I will see what their end. For they a very froward generation, children in whom no faith.
Because God’s people were willing to trade their faith for inclusion, they will find themselves in a faraway country.
Something few of us may understand is God can turn away from us. Although He is all knowing, He can choose to not know as He has done many times. The unfortunate thing for us is, when He turns away there is no one to protect us. When we turn exclusively to sin for an extended time, there is a period when God will turn away. As such, we are left to the randomness of the world. This typically will result in pain for the believer as they live a life that is filled with inconsistencies. This becomes the Achillies heel for many.
God Moves Against Us
God Moves Against Us
Devarim 32:21
21 They have moved Me to zealous (qana) with not God (el); they have provoked Me to anger with their vanities. And I will move them to zealous (qana) with not a people; I will provoke them to anger with a foolish nation.
If we continue in our rebellion as we always do, Yehovah will turn His back to us. Typically He does not find us in a better condition than when He turned away. We seem to continue on the path of destruction. God is a zealous God. He is zealous for righteousness. He will not tolerate our foolishness very long. If we continue in this path, the very ones we trusted will become our downfall. It starts out simple, but if we continue it will result in the following.
He will bring another to provoke Yisrael to zealousness, Romans 10:19-21.
19 But I say, Did not Yisrael know? First Moshes said, I will provoke you to jealousy by no people, by a foolish nation I will anger you. 20 But Yeshayahu is very bold, and said, I was found of them that sought Me not; I was made manifest to them that asked not after Me. 21 But to Yisrael he said, All day long I have stretched forth My hands to a disobedient and gainsaying people.
In the future, there would be a people Yehovah would bring forth to cause Yisrael to be zealous once again. These will bring salvation to Yisrael. These will cause Yisrael to return to their Father. Yisrael’s opportunity will be in the future Restitution of All things.
Devarim 32:22-23
22 For a fire is kindled in My anger (af), and shall burn to the lowest sheol, and shall consume the land with her increase, and set on fire the foundations of the mountains. 23 I will heap mischiefs upon them; I will spend my arrows upon them.
When we turn away from God, it effects every part of us. The land will no longer produce. God will chastise us with pinpoint accuracy.
With all this chastisement, one would think it would turn them back to God. However, we are a foolish people. We lose all sense about us and continue to do the very things that caused our problems. Many times we double up on our rebellion.
Devarim 32:24-25
24 Burnt with hunger, and devoured with burning heat, and with bitter destruction. I will also send the teeth of beasts upon them, with the poison of serpents of the dust. 25 The sword without, and terror within, shall destroy both the young man and the virgin, the suckling with the man of gray hairs.
Because Yisrael continued in their rebellion they were expelled from the land. Eventually, Yehudah would end up in Bavel for 70 years. The Children of Yisrael were significantly reduced in numbers.
Christianity saw the same thing after the First Century. Many believers started to compromise on their faith. It was easier for them to compromise than to withstand the onslaught of persecution. As a result, the faith became watered down and weakened. Eventually, the walls fell down and the old ways of the First Century were displaced.
Second Exile
Second Exile
Devarim 32:26
26 I said, I would scatter them into corners, I would make the remembrance of them to cease from among men.
Eventually our rebellion was the cause of the second exile. We were scattered into the nations. This happened to physical Yisrael and would eventually happen to spiritual Yisrael.
After the First Century, Christianity started to decline. This opened up an opportunity for the formation of the Roman Catholic Church. It rose up and united Christian factions into one. This eventually spelled the doom of Messianic believers and those who adhered to the Apostles of the First Century. This was when Christianity went into its first exile. A veritable death state.
The second exile was when the Protestant Reformation started to take root. Although the Protestants were rebelling against the Mother Church in Rome, they never went far enough. Many of the protesters of Roman Catholicism wanted revision rather than restitution. This ended up causing the second exile. No longer were the faithful only in Bavel, they were spread out in the nations.
God Turns Back
God Turns Back
Devarim 32:27-28
27 Were it not that I feared the wrath of the enemy, Lest their adversaries should behave themselves strangely, lest they should say, Our hand high, and Yehovah has not done all this. 28 For they a nation void of counsel, neither understanding in them.
Yehovah, who allowed others to chastise us, will only allow it for so long. Man has proven to be far inhumane than what is thought to be humanly possible. Mankind left to their own deice knows only to continue on the road of rebellion. They seek to exalt themselves above all. Yehovah will only allow them to exalt themselves for so long. Eventually if He does not stop this, restitution may not be easily accomplished.
Few of us are inclined to pursue righteousness out of a pure heart. However, many of us would pursue our desires to the ends of the earth. Many times this has led to the destruction and waste of lives for the benefit of the few. Humans find it hard to be satisfied. As a result, God will step in before it goes too far. However, for many of us we continue on the steady decline.
Consider the Latter End
Consider the Latter End
Devarim 32:29
29 O that they were wise, they understood this, they would consider their latter end.
Yehovah declares to us if we were wise, we would consider our latter end. As humans, we are often shortsighted in our approach to things. It is not often that we consider the latter end of any thing we do. Often we act as if there is no tomorrow or that our actions have no bearing on the events of the future. Many live as if they are indestructible. We do not realize that what may seem as minor today can fester into a major issue in the future. In our youth, we are arrogant. Then as we grow old, we realize our own humanity and limits that are placed on us. This is when we try to change, but the past catches up with us.
Many do not consider death a reality until death is knocking on their door. Then they realize that they should have been a little more open and less arrogant. Yehovah warns us of the latter end, but we seem to think we will escape it or that we can repent before we die. There is no Scripture to support such illusions.
It is time we consider the latter end. We will be held accountable for all our actions and words. This includes believers and non-believers alike.
Devarim 32:30
30 How should one chase a thousand, and two put myriad (revavah) to flight, except their Rock (tzur) had sold them, and Yehovah had shut them up?
Myriad (formerly ten thousand) is the Hebrew word רְבָבָה revavah (H7233). It is in the Bible 16 times. רְבָבָה revavah (H7233) is translated ten thousand 13 times, million 1 time, many 1 time and multiply time. It appears to be the feminine of רָבַב ravav (H7231).
רָבַב ravav (H7231) is in the Bible 17 times. It is translated are many 6 times, are multiplied 3 times, increased 3 times, are more 2 times, manifold 1 time, ten thousands 1 time and multiply 1 time.
The Children of Yisrael were told at Mount Chorev in Vayyiqra 26:7-9.
7 And you shall chase your enemies, and they shall fall before you by the sword. 8 And five of you shall chase a hundred, and a hundred of you shall put a myriad (revavah) to flight. And your enemies shall fall before you by the sword. 9 For I will have respect to you, and make you fruitful, and multiply you, and establish My covenant with you.
However, this was contingent upon Vayyiqra 26:1-3.
1 You shall make you no idols nor graven image, neither rear you up a standing image, neither shall you set up image of stone (eben) in your land, to bow down to it. For I Yehovah your Redeemer. 2 You shall keep My Shabbasos, and reverence My sanctuary. I Yehovah. 3 If you walk in My statutes (chuqqah), and keep My commandments (mitsvah), and do them;
However, in Devarim 32 this is not happening, quite the opposite. It is time to consider why.
When we do not prosper as the people of God, there is usually a reason. Life in God is not supposed to be random as it is for those in the world. We should look at our life and evaluate why? And we always have the option of seeking God as Daniyyel did in Daniyyel 9:2-3.
2 In the first year of his reign I Daniyyel understood by books the number of the years, whereof the word of Yehovah came to Yirmeyahu the prophet, that He would accomplish seventy years in the desolations of Yerushalayim. 3 And I set my face to the Lord Redeemer, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes.
When Daniyyel did not understand something, he went to God with a question. Daniyyel who walked with God got an answer. We should do the same. If we are walking with God, we should be able to get a clear answer. If our lives seem random at best, then possibly we are not walking within Scriptural boundaries. Or, we are not listening to His voice. We should never assume God is mysterious. We are told in Romans 10:8-9.
8 But what says it? The word (rhema) is nigh you, in your mouth, and in your heart. That is, the word of faith, which we preach; 9 that if you shall confess with your mouth the Lord Yeshua, and shall believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved.
If we are walking with Him, we should be able to hear from Him. We ought to consider our latter end. We ought to consider all things. It is not supposed to be random for the believer, Romans 8:28.
28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to purpose.
If we are in His purposes, all things work for the good. It may not be good for us, but we should understand.
Other Nations’ Folly
Other Nations’ Folly
Devarim 32:31
31 For their rock (tzur) not as our Rock (tzur), even our enemies themselves judges.
When our enemies have victory, they assume that it is by their might. They act as if they are independent of Yehovah; however, all are accountable to Him. He allows their foolishness. Their ignorance will be their undoing. Their victory is temporary and bittersweet.
Devarim 32:32-33
32 For their vine of the vine of Sodom, and of the fields of Gomorrah. Their grapes, grapes of head (rosh), their clusters bitter, 33 their wine is the poison of dragons, and the cruel venom of asps.
These who think they have power and eminence produce nothing but poison. All they touch or is under their control is adversely affected. They think they are the head. Yet, their power is only effective as God allows them. They achieve no lasting victory or good for themselves or anyone else.
Devarim 32:34
34 Not this laid up in store with Me, sealed up among my storehouse (otzar)?
What these do not realize, it is always within God’s control to overpower these people. Often, God allows things we do not always understand. Possibly it is a test or it is outside God’s concern at the time. Unfortunately for these people, they often believe they have proven the nonexistence of God. They believe that human nature will triumph in the end. This is the foolishness of mankind.
Devarim 32:35
35 To Me vengeance, and recompence; their foot shall slide in time. For the day of their calamity at hand, and the things that shall come upon them make haste.
Eventually, God will act or life will catch up with these people. Today, it happens faster than it ever has. They will not be able to outrun life or the one who pursues them. Their memory will be lost in the dust as will all their victories.
Yehovah has the Last Word
Yehovah has the Last Word
Devarim 32:36
36 For Yehovah shall judge His people, and comfort Himself for His servants, when He sees that power is gone, and none shut up, or left.
There comes a time when the rebellious servant comes to the end of Himself. Yehovah is looking for this time in all of us. Just as the father of the prodigal son did.
Devarim 32:37-38
37 And He shall say, Where their redeemers, rock (tzur) in whom they trusted, 38 which did eat the fat of their sacrifices, drank the wine of their drink offerings? Let them rise up and help you, be your protection.
His reply when we finally turn is, where is the one you trusted in? Are you ready to completely repent of your foolishness?
When this happens, we must be willing to give up completely on our false idols and gods we have created? In most cases, we still hang on to the world just in case. We bring a backup plan with us. We cannot come with conditional repentance. He knows our hearts.
Devrim 32:39-43
39 See now that I, I am He, and no redeemer with Me. I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal. Neither that can deliver out of My hand. 40 For I lift up My hand to heaven, and say, I live for ever. 41 If I whet my glittering sword, and My hand take hold on judgment; I will render vengeance to My enemies, and will reward them that hate Me. 42 I will make My arrows drunk with blood, and My sword shall devour flesh; with the blood of the slain and of the captives, from the beginning of revenges upon the enemy. 43 Rejoice, you nations, His people. For He will avenge the blood of His servants, and will render vengeance to His adversaries, and will be merciful to His land, to His people.
In the end, God will be victorious. He will do as He pleases and He will save His servants. They are eternally His.
However, it does not please Him when we expect Him to operate outside the very boundaries He has given us. This is why it is important to understand all of Scriptures, because our answer lies within the pages He has given us. God cannot lie nor contradict what He has written. It is upon us to live within these guidelines if we expect His mercy.
It is Our Life
It is Our Life
Devarim 32:44-45
44 And Moshe came and spoke all the words of this song in the ears of the people, he, and Hoshea the son of Nun. 45 And Moshe made an end of speaking all these words to all Yisrael.
All the words of the Song, Moshe taught the people. He did this together with Yehoshua, who is now starting to assume responsibility for leadership.
However, Yehoshua is called Hoshea. It simply means salvation. We receive salvation from only one, Yeshayahu 43:11.
11 I, I Yehovah and beside Me no savior.
Devarim 32:46-47
46 And he said to them, Set your hearts to all the words which I testify among you this day, which you shall command your children to observe to do, all the words of this Torah. 47 For it not a vain thing for you; because it your life. And through this thing you shall prolong days in the land, whither you go over Yarden to possess it.
The lesson of the Song of Devarim 32 is simply, do all the words of Torah and obey His voice. We are to teach our children to do all the words of Torah. This is the most important things we can do for ourselves, our children and the entire world.
If the entire world would observe Torah in the newness of the Spirit, life would be simple and uncomplicated. We would experience peace, joy and prosper in everything we put our hands to. We would all share in the greatness that Yehovah gives to His people.
So many desire this, but few are willing to humble themselves to another. We must discontinue our selfishness and follow Devarim 6:5-9.
5 And you shall love Yehovah your Redeemer with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might. 6 And these words, which I command you this day, shall be in your heart. 7 And you shall teach (shanan) them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise up. 8 And you shall bind them for a sign upon your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. 9 And you shall write them upon the mezuzah of your house, and on your gates.
We are to follow Torah with all our heart and soul and wait for His return. To some this may not seem to be enough. Rest assured, this is more than most will accomplish in their lifetime. We all need to learn to fulfill Matityahu 24:45-46.
45 Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord has made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season? 46 Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he comes shall find so doing.
If we would do this, more good would come of our time and that of others. We should be serving within His purposes and walk in His righteousness.
Moshe’s Death
Moshe’s Death
Devarim 32:48-49
48 And Yehovah spoke to Moshe that selfsame day, saying, 49 Get you up into this mountain Avarim, Mount Nevo, which is in the land of Moav, that over against Yericho; and behold the land of Kenaan, which I give to the Children of Yisrael for a possession.
Yehovah tells Moshe to ascend Avarim. Moshe was first told this in Bemidbar 27:12-13.
12 And Yehovah said to Moshe, Get you up into this Mount Avarim, and see the land which I have given to the Children of Yisrael. 13 And when you have seen it, you also shall be gathered to your people, as Aharon your brother was gathered.
This possibly would lead one to believe that Devarim 32 preceded parts of Bemidbar 27.
Moshe was to go up Avarim specifically Mount Nevo to view the lands of Kenaan the Children of Yisrael would inherit. Yehovah may have shown Moshe more, but that cannot be determined. Yehovah may have possibly given Moshe a glimpse into the future.
Devarim 32:50
50 And die in the mount whither you go up, and be gathered to your people; as Aharon your brother died in mount Hor, and was gathered to his people.
Moshe would die as Aharon did. He would ascend the mountain and this would be the last anyone would see of him. His grave was unmarked, Yehudah 9.
9 Yet Miykael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moshe, did not bring against a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke you.
Even the devil did not know positively the grave site.
Devarim 32:51
51 Because you trespassed against Me among the Children of Yisrael at the waters of Merivah-Qadesh, in the wilderness of Tzin; because you sanctified Me not in the midst of the Children of Yisrael.
Moshe will not enter the land because He did not show due reverence to Yehovah at the Rock (sela). Rather than speaking to the Rock (sela), Moshe stated in Bemidbar 20:10-11.
10 And Moshe and Aharon gathered the congregation together before the Rock (sela), and he said to them, Hear now, you rebels; must we fetch you water out of this Rock (sela)? 11 And Moshe lifted up his hand, and with his rod (matteh) he smote the Rock (sela) twice. And the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their animals (beiyr).
Moshe made it seem as if he was independent of Yehovah. Moshe knew better than to cross this line, it was something he could not return from. Moshe knew God face to face. Moshe had just placed himself equal to God. Whether it was intentional or not does not matter. Moshe allowed himself to do something none of us should do. However, because of Moshe’s proximity to God in the Spirit, Moshe was held to a higher standard. As such, Moshe would not enter into the promised land until much later in the Restitution of All Things. Moshe would go to sleep with the fathers in Sheol.
Devarim 32:52
52 Yet you shall see the land before; but you shall not go thither to the land which I give the Children of Yisrael.
Yehovah allowed Moshe to see the Promised Land. Moshe’s actual death would not be recorded until Devarim 34. It was previously discussed several times. As it was in Bemidbar 27:13 and in Devarim 3:27.
27 Get you up into the top of Pisgah, and lift up your eyes westward, and northward, and southward, and eastward, and behold with your eyes. For you shall not go over this Yarden.
From all this, one should realize that Devarim does not follow Bemidbar, but is intertwined.
