Tehilla 122 (Psalm 122)

Tehilla 122 is the third Tehilla of the Songs of Ascent.  It is the step when the Believer hears the call to come to Yerushalayim.  It is not just the call, but it is when the individual realizes that Yerushalayim is their home.  When they long to return to city of their birthplace.  It becomes the greatest desire of the individual.  They realize that they can only pass through the gates as they become more righteous in their walk towards Yehovah.

Tehilla 122 Introduction

A Song of Ascents for Daviyd.

“For” was formerly “of”.  This is an important distinction.  “For David” is the Hebrew לְדָוִד.  It is the Hebrew word דָּוִד David (H1732) with the Hebrew prefix ל.  This prefix usually means “to” or “for”.  However, whenever it is used in combination with Daviyd in Tehillim, it is translated “of”.  Thereby indicating 73 times that Daviyd my have written a particular Tehilla.  Whether or not Daviyd wrote all these Tehillim is not the issue.  What is at issue is the translation of the Hebrew prefix ל.  This prefix normally means “to” or “for”.  This would indicate that the Tehilla is for David.  However, not for King Daviyd; but for His descendant, Yeshua.  It would be hard to believe that if Daviyd was the author, he would want credit for these Tehillim rather than expressing that they are for Messiah.

This particular Song of Ascent is for Messiah.  We are to do as He did 2000 years ago.  This is when we are serious about the walk He has placed before us.  It is when we are making way to return to Yerushalayim, the place of our birth and the house of Yehovah.

Tehilla 122:1

1 I rejoiced (samach) when they said to me, let us go into the house of Yehovah.

This is the third step in the Songs of Ascent.  When one gets the call to come to the house of Yehovah.  This is a call we should all get; however, many of us are not in the position to hear or answer the call.  Mainly because of Tehilla 66:18.

18 If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord (adon) will not hear.

This is many of us, because we never took the first two steps.

The first step is to call on Yehovah with a pure heart.  We do this when we have come to the end of ourselves.  We call when we realize that we are powerless against the enemy.  And, without Yehovah’s power flowing through us, we are lost in a world of confusion.  This first step is the realization of just how badly we need His help.  Then we begin a walk of righteousness.  Not perfect, but better with each step we take.

The second step is to have child-like faith in the Father.  It is coming to the realization that He is a good God and the awareness that He is for us.  It is the understanding that He helps and protects us because we are willing to start to walk the righteous life.  When we recognize that we do not have to be perfect, but we have to be more righteous with each step we take.

When we do these first two steps, we are ready.  Or, we have already have started to break free of Babylon.  We are answering the call of Revelation 18:4.

4 And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, My people, That you be not partakers of her sins, and that you receive not of her plagues.

This third step, we realize the importance of coming out of Harlot worship and getting it out of us.  We will not be able to enter the gate of Yerushalayim if we have harlot worship in us.  We must be cleansed of the defilement that it causes.  Our goal now is to simply step inside of Yerushalayim.

Tehilla 122:2

2 Our feet shall stand within Your gates, Yerushalayim.

This third step is to ultimately bring us to the gates of Yerushalayim.  It is there that we want to cross over into the Kingdom.  This is where our heart desires to be.  Paul expressed to us in Galatians 4:26.

26 But Yerushalayim which is above is free, which is the mother of us all.

Yerushalayim is the mother of us all.  However, not a mother in the physical sense.  Yerushalayim is the mother in the figurative sense.  The mother is the faith that one follows.  It is Yerushalayim above, because our faith comes from the Heavenlies.  It is the faith that Yeshua taught His disciples and they wrote of in the Beriyt Chadasha.  We were born from this faith.

After the Day of Shavous in Acts 2 when 3,000 answered the call.  The Apostles were ready for these people.  In the early days of the faith, it was not that complicated, Acts 2:42.

42 And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.

In the early days of the faith they did four things.  The continued in the Apostles’ Doctrine, Fellowship, Breaking of Bread and in prayers.  Simply they continued in the faith that Yeshua taught the Apostles.  The faith the Apostles would record in the Beriyt Chadasha.  These are the books we should study.  If we did, we would quickly realize that the Hebrew Scriptures are necessary.  The only books we need are the 66 books of the Bible.

They continued in Fellowship, they always congregated on the Sabbath and Feast days.  And when they would get together, they would observe communion.  They continued unceasingly in prayers.  Prayer is one of the most effective things we can do to maintain our faith.  If we do these four things consistently, we would be at the gates of Yerushalayim.  Doing these consistently with diligence would free us from the onslaught of the world.

Tehilla 122:3

3 Yerushalayim is built as a city that is compact together.

Compact comes from the Hebrew words חָבַר chavar (H2266).  It is in the Bible 29 times.  חָבַר chabar (H2266) is translated couple 8 times, join 8 times, couple together 4 times, join together 3 times, compact 1 time, charmer + חֶבֶר chever (H2267) 1 time, charming + חֶבֶר chever (H2267) 1 time, have fellowship 1 time, league 1 time and heap up 1 time.  It means to join together either literally or figuratively.

Those in Yerushalayim are joined together as one body, Ephesians 4:15-16.

15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into Him in all things, which is the head, Messiah.  16 From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplies, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, makes increase of the body to the edifying of itself in love.

Before we cross into the gates we must be ready to be a part of the body that is in Yerushalayim.  It is no longer about us.  We are to maintain the unity of the faith, so that we can be fed from the Head.  We need to pray for this as in Romans 15:5.

Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be likeminded one toward another according to Messiah Yeshua.

We pray for this, but not that God would change us.  We pray that God would reveal to us what we need to change.  Then through His healing power, we move forward in the faith.  We search for those that can help us grow into the new creation we are to be.

We do this in preparation for entering the gates of Yerushalayim.  When we are in the city, we are to be of the same mind as those that are already there.

Tehilla 122:4

4 Whither the tribes go up, the tribes of Yehovah, to the Testimony (edut) of Yisrael, to give thanks to the name of Yehovah.

This is when we decide that this is where we want to be.  This is when we make the decision to stop playing church and start walking in His faith.  We are no longer in this for personal gain, but for the glorification of Yehovah.  His testimony is what is important.  We pursue the vindication of His name.  It is when we give thanks to Him.  We start to become a humble servant and we stop being the offence.  We allow the word to work richly in us so that we are worthy of His city New Yerushalayim.

Tehilla 122:5

5 For there are set thrones of judgment, the thrones of the house of Daviyd.

This is where the real leaders of the faith reside.  Where the righteous are preparing to bring forth the righteous judgment to occur in the Millennium.  The ones that will rule and reign with Messiah.  This is where the real truth is found.

Those sitting on the thrones are those in Matityahu 19:28.

28 And Yeshua said to them, Verily I say to you, That you which have followed Me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of His glory, you also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Yisrael.

There are those that are in Yerushalayim that are those of Revelation 20:4.

And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment (krima) was given to them.  And the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Yeshua and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Messiah a thousand years.

These will be the ones bringing the Gospel to the Nations through the Restitution of All Things, Acts 3:19-22.

19 Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord; 20 and He shall send Yeshua Messiah, which before was preached to you.  21 Whom the heaven must receive until the times of Restitution of All Things, which God has spoken by the mouth of all His holy prophets since the world began.  22 For Moshe truly said to the fathers, a Prophet shall the Lord your God raise up to you of your brethren, like to me; Him shall you hear in all things whatsoever He shall say to you.

Tehilla 122:6

Pray for the peace of Yerushalayim.  They shall prosper that love you.

We pray for the peace of Yerushalayim, because we realize this is what will bring peace on earth.  All of men’s plans through the ages have yet to permanently solve any of the problems mankind has faced.  In fact, man’s solutions to problems has only aggravated the human condition.

So we pray for New Yerushalayim, we are praying for Revelation 21:1-3.

1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth.  For the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.  And I Yochanan saw the holy city, new Yerushalayim, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.  And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people, and God himself shall be with them, their God.

We pray for Yerushalayim, because this is where our hope is.  This is the Bride of Messiah.  These are the ones that will rule and reign with Messiah.  These are the ones entrusted with bringing forth the gospel in the Millennium.  These are the ones that will eventually find those who never heard and desire to hear the unadulterated gospel.  These will help to balance the accounts and this will bring healing to the nations.

We pray for them because they are the ones that will fulfill Yeshayahu 1:26-27.

26 And I will restore your judges as at the first, and your counselors as at the beginning.  Afterward you shall be called, the city of righteousness, the faithful city.  27 Zion shall be redeemed with judgment, and her converts with righteousness.

This is when judges will be coming forth that will fulfill Shofetim 2:16 in the future.

16 Nevertheless Yehovah raised up judges, which delivered them out of the hand of those that spoiled them.

The judges of new Yerushalayim will be there to deliver many from the hands of those that deceived them is this lifetime.  These are the ones that bring forth truth.  Something few have heard because of the deception that is rampant in the world today.  These are the judges of New Yerushalayim we pray for.

Tehilla 122:7-8

Peace be within your walls, prosperity within your palaces.  For my brethren and companions’ sakes, I will now say, Peace within you.

It here is Yerushalayim, we should long to be.  It is a group of people that are joined together for one cause.  That cause is Yehovah.  To bring about His glory and restore things to the way that it was at the first.  There is peace there, because in Yerushalayim these follow His word and His will.  They serve the greater purposes of Yehovah.  It is one mind and one body in the Spirit.  Because we start to understand the meaning of 1 Corinthians 2:9.

But as it is written, Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God has prepared for them that love him.

What is ahead is beyond our understanding.  However, we do understand one thing, that what He has is best for all.  It will answer all the questions we have and resolve all the issues of this lifetime.  When we enter eternity, we will know the love that we should have known from the beginning.

Tehilla 122:9

Because of the house of Yehovah our Redeemer I will seek Your good.

In this third step, we realize that there is a greater purpose than to just fulfill or own needs on this earth.  We may not fully understand what is about to happen, but we realize that God has a plan.  It is a plan that is fair and heals all our pains.  It is a plan that will fulfill all our righteous desires.  So we seek to fulfill His purposes, because in the end it will fulfill Revelation 21:4-5.

And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain.  For the former things are passed away.  And He that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new.  And He said to me, Write.  For these words are true and faithful.

We seek to serve His purposes, because not only is it our hope, it is the hope for the whole world.  So we start to gain momentum as we move towards Yerushalayim in the faith in the Spirit.
