Babel Confusion by Mixing
Revelation 14:8
8 And there followed another angel, saying, Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.
This is the first time that Babylon is mentioned in Revelation. Babylon is the Greek word Babylon (G0897). It means confusion. Babylon (G0897) is of Hebrew origin. It is from the Hebrew word babel (H0894). Babel (H0894) means confusion by mixing. This is exactly what happened to First Century Christianity. Unfortunately, few seem to fully comprehend the extent of it. In the succeeding chapters of Revelation, more of this will be revealed. Babylon not only represents false religion, it represents what happened to Christianity.
During the First Century as Christianity was starting to flourish, there were a number of issues that were starting to occur. One was the adoption of heathen traditions into the faith. Paul strictly wrote against this in Galatians 4:8-11.
8 Howbeit then, when ye knew not God, ye did service unto them which by nature are no gods. 9 But now, after that ye have known God, or rather are known of God, how turn ye again to the weak and beggarly elements, whereunto ye desire again to be in bondage? 10 Ye observe days, and months, and times, and years. 11 I am afraid of you, lest I have bestowed upon you labour in vain.
Although some want to attribute these statement to following Leviticus 23 Festivals, this is not what Paul is discussing. The Galatians prior to Christianity were not observing the Hebrew Festivals of God. They were observing heathen traditions, refer to Galatians 4:9-11 Observing Times for further discussion. This was causing confusion among the believers by mixing in former traditions.
This is what Mystery Babylon did, Revelation 17:5.
5 And upon her forehead was a name written, Mystery, Babylon the Great, the Mother of harlots and abominations of the earth.
As clear as it may be from scriptures, it is a mystery to many followers of Messiah exactly what happened. Today, many defend principles that came from the Harlot Church without realizing it. When Babylon falls, it will be a rude awakening for many believers and non-believers alike. This is why Joel writes in Joel 2:1-2.
1 Blow ye the trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm in my holy mountain: let all the inhabitants of the land tremble: for the day of Yehovah cometh, for it is nigh at hand; 2 A day of darkness and of gloominess, a day of clouds and of thick darkness, as the morning spread upon the mountains: a great people and a strong; there hath not been ever the like, neither shall be any more after it, even to the years of many generations.
And Amos 5:18.
18 Woe unto you that desire the day of Yehovah! to what end is it for you? the day of Yehovah is darkness, and not light.
For many when Babylon falls, it will leave them in confusion. It was never acceptable to mix anything with Christianity that is not of God. The believer’s worship is to be pure at all cost. God intends to rectify what man has done to His faith.
