Seven Eyes

Revelation 5:6

6And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth.

The lamb that was slain had seven eyes.  This relates to a beautiful picture in the book of Zechariah about the Messiah.  Zechariah describes aspect of Messiah and will even name the Messiah, Zechariah 3:1.

1And he shewed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of Yehovah, and Satan standing at his right hand to resist him.

Joshua in Hebrew is Yhowshua (H3091).  The contraction is Y’shua or Yeshua.  In Zechariah’s vision, he sees Joshua, the high priest, standing before the angel of Yehovah and Satan standing at his right hand to resist him.  Satan’s resistance is the temptation he uses to separate us from God, Zechariah 3:2-3.

2And Yehovah said unto Satan, Yehovah rebuke thee, O Satan; even Yehovah that hath chosen Jerusalem rebuke thee: is not this a brand plucked out of the fire?

God rebukes Satan’s efforts through Joshua, who will endure the trial by fire.  Yeshua is the one who is tested and found to be worthy, Zechariah 3:3.

3Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments, and stood before the angel.

Joshua, who is to be the savior was clothed with filthy garments.  However, it is not because of him, 2 Corinthians 5:21.

21For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

He has been made sin.  Every sin that had been committed or will be committed was laid upon him.  He literally became sin.  This was the sin offering of the New Testament.  Yeshua is clothed in filthy garments standing before the angel of Yehovah.  Those filthy garments represent your sins and mine, Zechariah 3:4.

4And he answered and spake unto those that stood before him, saying, Take away the filthy garments from him. And unto him he said, Behold, I have caused thine iniquity to pass from thee, and I will clothe thee with change of raiment.

In the clothing of Yeshua, the High Priest, we see the picture of him paying for our sins with his death.  Yeshua was found worthy to come before God.  He was worthy to be the perfect sacrifice.  The interpretation is in Zechariah 3:8-9.

8Hear now, O Joshua the high priest, thou, and thy fellows that sit before thee: for they are men wondered at: for, behold, I will bring forth my servant the BRANCH.  9For behold the stone that I have laid before Joshua; upon one stone shall be seven eyes: behold, I will engrave the graving thereof, saith Yehovah of hosts, and I will remove the iniquity of that land in one day.

Upon one stone shall be seven eyes.  Here we see that Joshua and the branch are one. Because Yeshua prevailed in death, He alone is allowed to take the book, Revelation 5:7.

7And he came and took the book out of the right hand of him that sat upon the throne.

It is only through his death that the New Covenant can be put into force.  In taking the book of the covenant out of the hand of the Lord in Heaven, he is the one who brings it forth.  He stands at the right hand of God, Zechariah 3:10.

10In that day, saith Yehovah of hosts, shall ye call every man his neighbour under the vine and under the fig tree.

It is the Messianic prophesy of Yeshua.  Our great High Priest became sin for us and was brought forth as the branch.  Our penalty was paid by him.  This is the vision that John is given.

Together the seven horns and seven eyes are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth with power.  Yeshua who is in heaven watch over His people in the seven ages and seven congregations.
