Crucifixion, Death, Burial, Resurrection

Communion

1.    Luke 22:17-18, Yeshua probably never actually drank the wine that night.

2.    Luke 22:19-20, bread was matzah

·         My body which is given for you.  This do in remembrance of Me.

·         Wine is My blood, which is shed for you.  Bereishis 49:11.

3.    There is no reason to even think this is actually blood.

·         Although, there are those that believe the wine of communion becomes the blood of Messiah,

·         Contradict Scriptures, Vayyiqra 7:26-27,

·         To have us drink blood would break Torah.

·         The Messiah would not have us violate Torah.

·         That would be a sin, disqualifying Him to be Messiah.

·         Prohibition against blood in Acts 15:20.

·         To think that the wine is changed to blood is complete heresy

·         After all these years, it is surprising the amount of superstition that is in Christianity.

4.    First communion was performed, Bereishis 14:18

5.    What may not be widely understood is what was the purpose of Communion.

·         There is always the possibility that Yeshua was trying to tell us something we failed to understand.

6.    Yochanan 1:29, what is Yeshua?

·         Lamb of God, which takes away the sin of the world.

·         If Yeshua was the lamb,

·         Then the wine and matzah of communion

·         Would represent the grain and drink offering for the sacrifice.

·         This was done the night before Yeshua died on the cross.

·         Communion was a prelude to His sacrifice.

7.    Paul relates this to us in 1 Corinthians 10:16-17.

·         When Yeshua stated that the bread was “My Body”,

·         He was not referring to His physical body.

·         He was referring to the body of believers.

·         When we take communion we are a part of communion.  It is our body.

8.    Just as Yeshua did communion and gave Himself.

·         We are to do the same in Romans 12:1

·         We are to serve so that others may live a life in Him.

·         This is what Paul was referring to in 2 Corinthians 4:10-12.

9.    As Yeshua lived and give for us.

·         We are to follow this pattern in being a living sacrifice.

·         Our sacrifice of this life is to bring life in others.

·         Who are in the faith so that they may become strong.

·         Communion is the remembrance to do as He did.

·         So that we would remember to give our lives as He did.

9.    Luke 11:31-32, what will the generation see in the future?

10.  Does the sign of Yona have anything to do with the resurrection of Yeshua?

·         Actually no

·         It has to do with the Restitution of All Things

·         You may think different,

·         But does it line up the same?

·         This can only be of the Spirit, one cannot will it

10.  Yochanan 3:6, how is it possible?

11.  Yochanan 3:7-8, what does Yeshua relate to the wind?

·         You cannot control the Spirit

Spices

1.    Yochanan 19:39, who did not know that Nicodemus had spices?

·         That is why they prepared spices, Luke 23:56

2.    Who had the presence of mind to prepare spices prior to Yeshua’s death?

·         Nicodemus and Joseph of Arimathaea

·         Probably had servants prepare the spices

3.    Luke 23:52, when did Joseph go to Pilate?

·         Mark 15:42-45

·         Evening, day before Shabbas

4.    Luke 23:53-54, when did this occur?

·         Passover night Yeshua went into the grave

5.    Luke 23:56, where did the women get the spices?

·         Next day was a Shabbas Day

·         Therefore it was Passover

10.  If He died on Friday, what problem does this present?

11.  Mark 16:1, when did the women buy the spices?

·         How do we know when they bought the spices

·         Has to be before the Shabbas

·         Because they prepared after he was buried

Judas

1.    Stop and think what

·         People believe about this time period, DBR

·         Over the years people have created explanation

·         That outright conflict with scriptures

·         When all they had to do is compare scriptures with scripture

·         And the answer is quite simple

2.    What is the inherent problem?

·         Most of us have been raise a certain way

·         If we challenge the way we are raised

·         Many of us become like a ship at sea in a storm

·         With no way to control the rudder or the stabilizers

3.    Why is this important?

·         The reason is too often Believers have bought into concepts that defy logic

·         To the point that they will defend these positions

·         In the face of scriptures that clearly teach otherwise.

4.    Is Judas burning in hell right now and why or why not?

·         No, 2 Peter 2:9

5.    2 Peter 2:9, what can be said about this verse?

·         If the unjust are reserved for the day of Judgment

·         There is no one in Hell

·         Because that is punishment before judgment

6.    2 Peter 2:9, what is this day of Judgment?

·         It is actually the day of separation

·         It is the 1000 year reign of Messiah

7.    Acts 1:16-18, who is Peter referring to in Acts 1:18?

·         Before you answer listen to these opinions

·         Because this basic thought has shaped peoples beliefs for years

Judas, he lost his life more shamefully. We were told (Mt. 27:5) that he went away in despair, and was suffocated (so the word signifies there, and no more); here it is added (as latter historians add to those who went before) that, being strangled, or choked with grief and horror, he fell headlong, fell on his face (so Dr. Hammond), and partly with the swelling of his own breast, and partly with the violence of the fall, he burst asunder in the midst, so that all his bowels tumbled out. If, when the devil was cast out of a child, he tore him, threw him down, and rent him, and almost killed him (as we find Mk. 9:26; Lu. 9:42), no wonder if, when he had full possession of Judas, he threw him headlong, and burst him. The suffocation of him, which Matityahu relates, would make him swell till he burst, which Peter relates. he burst asunder with a great noise (so Dr. Edwards), which was heard by the neighbors, and so, as it follows, it came to be known

Judas, after betraying Jesus, hanged himself (Matityahu 27:5).  Then his body fell, and burst open (Acts 1:18).  Then his money was used to buy potter’s field (Matityahu 27:7).

Alleged Discrepancies of the Bible In reference to Matityahu 27:5 and Acts 1:18:

Neither of these statements exclude the other.  Matityahu does not deny that Judas, after hanging himself, fell and burst asunder; Peter does not assert that Judas did not hang himself previous to his fall.  Probably the circumstances were much as follows: Judas suspended himself from a tree on the brink of the precipice (cliff) overhanging the valley of Hinnom, and the limb or the rope giving way, he fell, and was mangled as described in Acts.

·         I guess so, but let’s look at scriptures.

8.    Acts 1:15-20, who is Acts 1:18 referring to?

·         Most would agree that this is referring to Judas Iscariot

9.    Matityahu 27:3-5, why did Judas bring back the 30 pieces of silver?

·         Maybe it was not Judas’ goal to see Yeshua crucified

·         He did throw the silver on the floor

·         And he did hang himself

10.  Matityahu 27:6-8, who bought the field?

·         The priest did

11.  As for the death of Judas, this is all we have in the Gospels

·         Mark, Luke and Yochanan are silent on this subject

12.  Matityahu 27:6-8, so why do people think Acts 1:18 is about Judas?

·         Some say it was Judas, because it was the money from his betrayal

·         Judas may NOT have physically done it

·         It was done in proxy

·         It is amazing the extent we will go to prove our traditions

13.  Acts 1:19, Whoever bought the field

·         Dwellers of Jerusalem knew who it was

·         Kind of like it was printed in the Jerusalem Post

·         They know about Judas and his betrayal

14.  Think to yourself could there possibly be more

Q:  Did they know of another person?

15.  Acts 1:20, this is a quote from what Tehilla?

·         Let his habitation be desolate, and let no man dwell therein

·         Is from: Tehilla 69:25

·         Note the difference in the pronouns

·         The HIS is a part of the THEIR

·         Hang onto that concept

·         his bishoprick let another take

·         Is from Tehilla 109:8

16.  What can be stated about verses from the Hebrew scriptures

Q:   that are found in the New Testament?

·         When a verse is taken from the Hebrew Scriptures, it is not taken by itself

·         It implies the entire meaning of the passage it is quoting

·         If not, then there is no consistency end to end

17.  Let’s deal with Tehilla 109 first

·         Tehilla 109:6-8, I guess it could be Judas

·         We have to stay in context of the entire passage

18.  Tehilla 109:3-5, who is this referring to?

·         This is not Judas by any stretch of the imagination

·         This is a different group of People

19.  Tehilla 109:9-10, this speaks of children

        Q:  Did Judas have children?

·         I do not think so

·         Scriptures are silent on this

·         And is this physical children or spiritual children

20.  Tehilla 109:11-13, can this be Judas?

·         Tehilla 109:13 is a crucial verse

·         Now it speaks about a generation

·         This is referring to a group of People

·         This is not Judas

21.  Let’s go to Tehilla 69, Tehilla 69:22-29

·         This is the passage from where

·         The prophesy of desolation of their habitation

·         In this case this is referring to a group of people

·         This group persecuted

·         Who God smitten

·         Judas did not persecute Yeshua

22.  Was it not a group of people that bought potter’s field?

        Q:  Who was that group?

·         And that group was the Temple Priests

·         It makes sense that someone from that group

·         Would receive the penalty of the prophecy

23   Before I explain Acts 1:18

·         Let’s read Matityahu 23:13-18 and Matityahu 23:29-33

·         These have parallels with Tehilla 69 and 109

24.  What happened within one generation of Yeshua’s resurrection?

·         The Temple was destroyed and

·         The Priest Class were out of a job

25.  So here is what happened

·         Matityahu 27:3, Judas repents, goes to the temple, has the sliver with him

·         Matityahu 27:5, Judas throws the silver on the ground, leaves the temple

·         Hangs himself

26.  The question is, where does Judas hang himself?

·         It does not state where Judas hangs himself

27.  Matityahu 27:6, The priest would not put the silver back into the treasury

·         Matityahu 27:7 so the priest bought potter’s field, a group of people

·         Acts 1:18, one of the Priest purchased the field and had a traumatic accident

·         Acts 1:19, the accident was widely known to those that lived in Jerusalem

·         It was not known to those outside of Jerusalem

·         Those outside of Jerusalem knew of Judas

·         But may not have known of the priest that died

28.  Acts 1:20, it was the habitation of the priest that became desolate

·         The temple was destroyed in one generation

·         The priest class ceased to exist

·         There were no children, no future priest

29.  Who took their place?

Hebrew 4:14, Yeshua was the one who replaced the Priest

30.  Here is the whole point

·         I came to this understanding through study

·         All I really did was attempt to rightly divide the word

31.   We need to learn to study scriptures and not just accept what we hear

·         It is important that we understand the Bible in its context

  ·         We must be able to go back to the original meaning of the Hebrew scriptures

      ·         How it was meant to be understood just like they did in the 1st Century.

  ·         It is important that we do not develop wild explanations to explain the Bible

 ·         We ought not blindly accept others’ opinions

Three Days

1.    Matityahu 27:63, when did the High Priest think Yeshua would rise?

 ·         After Three days

2.    Matityahu 27:63, was this true or was it what they believed?

·         It is what they believed

3.    Matityahu 27:63, is it a trusted source for truth or what they believed?

·         What they believed

4.    Matityahu 27:63, what is the difference between truth and what someone believes or states?

·         They may not necessarily be the same

5.    Who is a trusted source?

·         Yeshua

·         those that are speaking when the Spirit comes upon them

·         Sometimes other believers and nonbelievers

Matityahu 12:40*

Yeshua

three days and three nights

Yes

 *  This may not be referring to the resurrection

6.    Can the traditional view be possible?  No

·         Does not have three nights

9th Hour

·         Yochanan 11:9, 12 hours

·         0 hour sunrise

·         6th hour, high noon

·         12th Sunset

·         3rd approximately 9 am

·         9th approximately 3 pm

1.    Matityahu 27:45, what is occurring?

·         6th hour dark until the 9th hour

2.    Matityahu 27:46, what is occurring?

·         9th hour, Yeshua speaks forth Tehilla 22

3.    Matityahu 27:50, what time did Yeshua die?  Indeterminant

·         Matityahu 27:50, Yeshua dies

·         Matityahu 27:51, veil is torn, earthquake

·         Matityahu 27:52, graves open

·         Matityahu 27:53, after resurrection, saints arose

·         Matityahu 27:54, Centurion saw all this, makes statement

·         Matityahu 27:55-56, women behold

4.    Matityahu 27:50-56, what time period did these events occur?  Over several days

5.    Matityahu 27:57-58, when was Yeshua taken down?  After Sunset

6.    Devarim 21:22-23, when would they have wanted to take Him down?

·         As soon as possible

·         This does not prove anything

·         However, they would have immediately removed the body

·         Possibly Joseph made arrangements with the Sanhedrin or Priest ahead of time

7.    Mark 15:33, what has occurred?

·         From 6th to 9th darkness

8.    Mark 15:34, what has occurred?

·         Yeshua cried out, Yeshua speaks forth Tehilla 22

·         Similar to Matityahu

·         But different

9.    Mark 15:34, how is this different than Matityahu 27:46?

·         Being interpreted

·         Was not Aramaic

·         Aramaic was the common language of the people

·         Therefore most of the discussion was in Aramaic

·         Hebrew was not well know as it should have been

·         Why would this not be translated

·         It was tongues, Tehilla 22 was the whole interpretation

10.  Mark 15:35-38, when did Yeshua die?  Sometime after the 9th hour

11.  Mark 15:42-43, what do we learn new?

·         Waited for the kingdom of God

12.  Mark 15:42-43, what type of person was Joseph?

·         Probably a righteous individual

13.  Mark 15:42-43,  If Yeshua died at the 9th hour based on Devarim 21:22-23, would Joseph  have waited until after sunset to get Yeshua?

·         Since this would have defiled the land

·         More than likely Joseph went to Pilate immediately

·         Went in evening because it happened much later than the 9th hour

14.  Luke 23:44-53, what does Luke provide anything new?

·         Luke 23:50, Joseph was good and just

·         Should have been translated honorable and righteous

·         Luke 23:51, did not agree with the Sanhedrin

·         More than likely was prepared for what was to happen

·         Went to Pilate immediately after death

15.  Yochanan 19:14, what time is this?

·         Preparation for Passover is 13th Nissan

·         6th hour is noon

16.  Yochanan 19:15-18, what day was Yeshua crucified?

·         13th Aviv, day before Passover

17.  Does this conflict with the other gospels?

·         This is in harmony

·         The other Gospels do not provide a crucifixion day

18.  How could it make sense that He was crucified the day before Passover?

·         Crucifixion has nothing to necessarily do with the time of death

19.  Mark 15:44, why did Pilate marvel that He was already dead?

·         Crucifixion to death can take anywhere from hours to days

Last Supper – Yochanan

·         Continue to work through the issues of C, D, B & R

Yochanan provides the clearest information for dating the last supper and the Crucifixion

Luke will explain what happen after the crucifixion

Mark provides a hidden detail not found in the other Gospels

Matityahu pinpoints resurrection the best

1.    Yochanan 13:27, what did the disciples think Yeshua was telling Judas?

·         Yochanan 13:28, none really knew

·         Yochanan 13:29, some thought he would buy things needed for the feast

2.    Yochanan 13:29, if Judas was buying for the feast, what does that mean for the timeline?

·         It could not be a Shabbas Day

·         Prior to this was no Preparation Day

·         If they were eating the Passover meal, they would already have everything

·         If it was Passover night, that conflicts with the Yochanan 13:1

·         Therefore this is prior to Passover the latest being 13th Aviv

2.    Matityahu 27:11-14, what was Yeshua’s confession?
