Bemidbar 10 Chatsotserah – Silver Trumpets

Bemidbar 10:8

And the sons of Aharon, the priests, shall blow (taqa) with the silver trumpets (chatsotserah); and they shall be to you for an statute (chuqqah) for ever throughout your generations.

Silver Trumpets comes from the Hebrew word חֲצֹצְרָה chatsotserah (H2689).  It is in the Bible 29 times and is always translated trumpet.  It always refers to the silver trumpets constructed in Bemidbar 10.  To avoid confusion it will be translated silver trumpet for all future uses of the Hebrew word חֲצֹצְרָה chatsotserah (H2689).

The silver trumpets were for the priest to sound and not another.

The silver trumpets were sounded the following times:

As a side note, another sound on the Silver Trumpet is שברים shevarim.  It is 3, 3 second sounds on the trumpet.  The only place this word is found in the Tanakh is in Yehoshua 7:5.

And the men of Ai smote of them about thirty and six men: for they chased them before the gate to Shevarim, and smote them in the going down.  Wherefore the hearts of the people melted, and became as water.

Shevarim is the Hebrew word שְׁבָרִים Shevariym (H7671).  It is only in the Bible 1 time.  It means in the breaches.  שְׁבָרִים Shevariym (H7671) is the plural of שֶׁבֶר shever (H7667).  It is in the Bible 44 times.   שֶׁבֶר shever (H7667) is translated destruction 21 times, breach 7 times, hurt 4 times, breaking 3 times, affliction 2 times, bruise 2 times, crashing 1 time, interpretation 1 time, vexation 1 time and 2 miscellaneous words.  It means a fracture, figuratively ruin.  As in the sound it makes.
