American-English Preferences

The use of Old English words in the King James text has been replaced with more modern American-English words and spellings, where appropriate.  The Old English although correct is awkward for many and may be misleading.

Additionally, words have been added by the translators.  Sometimes these words are in italics.  In many cases, words were added as a preference by the translator.  These sometimes are misleading, when appropriate these have been eliminated.  Typically, this will be discussed below or in the variant translation pages.

Changes based on the above are:

• Alleluia is replaced with Hallelu Yah
• Anon is replaced with Immediately
• Austere is replaced with Harsh
• Bishoprick is replaced with Office
• Charger is replaced with Platter
• Holpen is replaced with Help (with the exception of Psalm 83:8)
• Musick is replaced Music
• O has been deleted when appropriate, it was added approximately 1036 times (“O” Exceptions)
• Unto is replaced with To

Additionally:

• Old English pronouns have been replaced with the appropriate modern American-English pronoun.
• Use of the “our” at the end of a word has been replaced with “or”.  Examples of this are:

• • Armour is replaced with Armor
  • Colour is replaced with Color
  • Honour is replaced with Honor
  • Labour is replace with Labor
  • Rigour is replaced with Rigor
  • Valour is replaced with Valor
