“O” Exceptions
“O” was added by the translators approximately 1036 times. However, there are times when “O” is in the text as a result of a translation of a Hebrew or Greek word.
אָנָּא ana (H0577)
The following instances of “O” come from the Hebrew word אָנָּא ana (H0577). It is in the Bible 13 times. אָנָּא ana (H0577) is translated I beseech you 8 times, I pray you 2 times, Oh 1 time and “O” 2 times. אָנָּא ana (H0577) means oh now!
Only one instance of אָנָּא ana (H0577) being translated “O” was identified. Young’s Analytical Concordance to the Bible listed Tehillah 116:16; however, the Interlinear to the KJV did show that אָנָּא ana (H0577) was translated “O”. As such, the only instance was Daniyyel 9:4.
4 And I prayed to Yehovah my Redeemer, and made my confession, and said, O Lord, the great and dreadful God (el), keeping the covenant and mercy to them that love Him, and to them that keep His commandments;
אַחֲלַי achalay (H0305)
The following instances of “O” come from the Hebrew word אַחֲלַי achalay (H0305). It is in the Bible 2 times. אַחֲלַי achalay (H0305) is translated “O that” 1 time and would God 1 time. It means would that!
Tehillah 119:5
5 O that my ways were directed to keep Your statutes.
אֲהָהּ ahah (H0162)
The following instances of “O” come from the Hebrew word אֲהָהּ ahah (H0162). It is in the Bible 15 times. אֲהָהּ ahah (H0162) is translated Ah 8 times, Alas 6 times and “O” 1 time.
Yehoshua 7:7
7 And Yehoshua said, Alas, O Lord Yehovah, wherefore have You at all brought this people over Yarden, to deliver us into the hand of the Emoriy, to destroy us? Would that we had been content, and dwelt on the other side Yarden.
In this case the “O” should be eliminated and “Alas” retained.
בִּי biy (H0994)
The following instances of “O” come from the Hebrew word בִּי biy (H0994). בִּי biy (H0994) is in the Bible 12 times. It is translated “O” 7 times, Oh 4 times and alas 1 time. בִּי biy (H0994) is used only adverbially. It is used to seek, enquire or to be searched out. It is used in the following Scriptures:
Bereishis 43:20
20 And said, O sir, we came indeed down at the first time to buy food.
Shemos 4:10
10 And Moshe said to Yehovah, O my Lord, I not eloquent, neither heretofore, nor since You have spoken to Your servant, but I slow of speech, and of a slow tongue.

The following instances of “O” come from the Hebrew word הוֹי hoy (H1945). It is in the Bible 52 times. הוֹי hoy (H1945) is translated woe 36 times, Ah 7 times, Ho 4 times, “O” 3 times and Alas 2 times. It means ah!, alas!, ha!, ho!, O! or woe!
