G5266 Wore Sandals 10c10
ὑπόδημα hupodema (G5266) shoes, sandals
Matthew 3:11
11 I indeed baptize you with water to repentance. But He that comes after me is mightier than I, whose shoes (hupodema) I am not worthy to bear. He shall baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.
Shoes comes from the Greek word ὑπόδημα hupodema (G5266). It is in the Bible 10 times and is always translated shoes. It denotes “a sole bound under the foot”. It is more specifically sandals as opposed to shoes. As such, Matthew 3:11 should have been translated:
11 I indeed baptize you with water to repentance. But He that comes after me is mightier than I, whose sandals (hupodema) I am not worthy to bear. He shall baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.
This affects the following Scriptures, the former word is in parenthesis.
