G4520 Keeping a Sabbath 1c1
Sabbatismos (G4520), keeping a sabbath
Hebrews 4:9
9 There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.
Rest comes from the Greek word sabbatismos (G4520). It is used in the Bible one time. It means keeping a sabbath. Hebrews 4:9 should have been translated
9 There remaineth therefore keeping a sabbath to the people of God.
Many Bible scholars will ascribe this to future rest or sabbath in the millennium. However, that is their doctrinal preference.
Staying with the consistency of scriptures, it indicates that believers should be keeping the seventh day Sabbath in this lifetime. It was the only day blessed by God, Genesis 2:2-3.
2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. 3 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.
Since God does not change His mind, Hebrews 13:8.
8 Yeshua Messiah the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.
It is the only Sabbath that is instituted as holy by God, Himself in both the Hebrew and Greek Scriptures.
